we discussed the our essay almost all of the time, because lots of us didn't go to Rab's tutorial in this week. However, I could discuss other group members about the essay content or structure. Giving help each other makes better idea, and I hope some of my idea would be a deal of my friend. Beyond the range of task, some of other essays which is concerning about my favorite topic such as Israeli issue or immigration issue provided me new interest towards that field. I'm so thankful to these friend.

We learned how to use pictures or graphs effectively in our essay. Including something symbolize the essay at the first makes reader easy catching that essay's topic effectively, and some use of statistics or graphs also make reader easy understanding about the confused information which is treated in the essay. Finally i decided not including the picture or figure (graph also) on this time. But Rab's lecture gave me some ideas to show essay more effectively.

We have more or less prejudical view towards everything. For example, in my case, I unconsisously have prejudical view that U.S. navy development on the Pacific is no problem, but China's equip of new and first aircraft is very problematic. It is very amazing thing for me, and it was also good thing for me to discuss political or deplomatic issue which is now controvercial or which is very familiar with us.

We learned essay structure and essay annotation, and also discussed the legitimacy of ELA reader. ELA reader certainly has a great value, but it is so heavy and so expensive, and contained materials are not up to date was the main topic of our discussion. Rab merely use ELA reader, and I love that kind of teaching style. ELA reader is not convenient to use and carry because of its scale and height, and its capital of material is soooo small and makes me really terrible feeling while reading it. RCA of course using it naturally, so I have to bring it university almost everyday because RCA task also requires the existence of ELA reader!!!

We learned about using Evernote
effectively. When I learned it at R&P class, frankly speaking, notebook or
handwriting would be better for me to take some information from books or
internet. However, Rab’s talk makes me change! Evernote has very nice functions
such as paste all of articles of internet, take in videos, and edit it freely.
And, it is also helpful for us to work with Zotero. Zotero and Evernote will be
my friend of technology.

We learned about Essay Structure. I noticed that it is important to make a wave of pro-con side in the essay like music. Certainly, essays which are organized in such a way will be evaluated and also very easy to read/understand.
We also learned how to presentation! Presentation is Rab's very strong sales point, actually, but it is the very first time for us to learn about presentation skill from Rab. I want to know more detail about presentation skill.

Today, I canceled class because of my attendance to IMF annual meeting in Tokyo. So today, I write about brief information on meeting.
IMF's 2012 meeting now holds in Tokyo, and there are three meeting halls; TIF (Tokyo International Forum locates in Yurakucho, near Ginza), Imperial Hotel and Hotel Okura. I attended three meetings, and two of them are held in Hotel Okura. I met several foreingn persons, for example, from Malaysia, Angola. There were many African people, including South- Sudan's man. The reason why I can recognized his nationality was that he fasten lapel pin which figures South-Sudan's national flag. Unfortunately I can't talk with him, but I certainly feel African power and Africa's potential in the economic perspective.
Seminars also very interesting for me, but because of using lots of terms in economics I can't understand sometimes mainly in the seminar about sovereign risk and euro crisis issue. Youth dialogue was also held at the meeting, and the topic of that seminar was the role of Asian nations and IMF in the global economy. Panelists' nationality is Japan, Korea, China, and Thailand, so that was very interesting and stimulating conversation. I met some students who are now studying economics or international affairs, and was surprised by their high level English. I have to study English more and more.
I'll attend that meeting 12th and 13th, too.

We cannot use technology well such as Rab. But, we didn't have an attitude that to use technology massively. We are living in modern "technological" society, so it is inevitable to use technology. so, it is more comfortable and smart to use it in very useful way.
However, I have also problem with my working essay mainly caused technological reason. Now I'm editing my essay's references, and my Zotero doesn't work at my Word 2011 on Microsoft (Not Word 2011 on Mac). Although I installed add-in for Zotero working in my Word, it doesn't work. Furthermore, computer says that add-in for Zotero working in Word 2011 has been installed correctly and successfully. Is anybody can solve that problem.????

It was last September's class. It is too fast to pass the time.
We learned connected with Fisher. We see three videos :Japan's shape ( with English transcription), Australia's CM which abuse Japan, and very scared video walking the man called Road of King. Our impression toward first one is somehow positive, because it is very funny thing for us to interpret our culture such a way. However, considering the existence of eniglish transcription, I had a little care about spreading misunderstanding about Japanese culture or habit. Second one has very political color, and we noticed that some Australians percepts Japanese as eating whale nations (savage tribes). Third one was very interesting, because the man who taking the video camera didn't take care about his life, and maybe he didn't precept that is dangerous action.Eventually, "perception is up to us".

We learned about Zotero's super function. It will be useful for me also in the long run perspective.
And, we watched some videos and pictures (called stereogram), and discussed each feelings about perception. It will be discussed more in the next class, but I still cannot percept the secreted scene.

We learned about specific skills and knowledge of academic writing. Academic writing is very difficult thing, I think. Because many thesis or essays called academic writing more or less have some problems which Rab pointed out last class. However, due to Rab's explanation and teaching, I will be able to pay attention to my writing more carefully than ever. I will write some thesises in my long career, so correct and sophisticated writing style is must need for me.

We learned essay writing way especially focused on writing style. Explanation of principle "3" is very clear for me (Freemason also recognize 3 as great and basic number, interestingly!), and now I can understand that this principle makes essay more understandable and acceptable. I'm thinking that I want to choose music as the topic of essay, and its guideline very helphul to consider its structure. I will write about Beethoven's Symphony No.9 especially focuse on its influence toward the 3 field after Beethoven (namely music, literature/society and politics). Thesis statement will be "Beethoven's Symphony No.9 is (one of the) most influential music works, because of its jinx giving to composers after Beethoven, (2nd reason is unclear now), giving the thought of freedom and influences to European democlacy. 5A's principle also amazing for me, becaues all of its As describes the essence wich will be needed on essay. I considered the 5A's when I decided topic, and it was good guideline for me.
Rab's explanation is very understandable because of his use of easy examples, and part devided explanation (essay style or content: Rule of 3, essay goal; 5As) also avoid confusion.

We learned the way of using Zotero and google readers. Considering my carrier of the life, I will write some academic thesis or essays maybe concerning about security policy or diplomatic policy. Therefore, reference management software Zotero is very useful and have great value for me. I'm glad to meet (encounter?) that kind of software. And also, google reader is the very thing what I really want to exist!! I always feel uncomortable about cannot getting latest information mainly about the international politics (ex. CFR blogs and updates, Foreign Affairs, New York Times etc). I still expects good experience from learing technlogy.

We learned continuely stumbling blocks in intercultural communication based on Barna's text. Though my concern that whether or not Barna's categolize has value still unclear, we learned many interesting examples of stumbling blocks, and also could know that these stumbling blocks have strong connection to its original culture and Religion. Rab tought us reasons of some prohabited things of each religions by logical explanation. It was so stimulative for us.

Friday's class was the first of treated Barna's text. This text was not so difficult to read, and Rab gives us some interesting view poins. For example, when we think about text, we learend that we should thik about author's nationality and taking position or situation in the context of global frame. Also, we learned that content and used example for explaining about stumbling blocks of international communication now has gone to be old, but I also think that categolize of this text (6 stumbling blocks) still has value. Last class didn't treat this thing (categolize), I want to learn that on Monday's class.

Can We Slough Off The Nuclear Deterrent Strategy? - Considering Nuclear Weapons and The Future of Japan
Summary
IN 2009, United States' President Barak Obama declared the potential sloughing off nuclear deterrent strategy as national security policy. Though his declaration seems to premise uncertain Eastern Asia situation after United States presence decreasing, it is important not to admit Iran getting nuclear weapon in any form of compromise. Certainly, Iran's bomb getting plan has great connection with Israel's uncertain nuclear weapon holding, it is understandable opinion that Iran's bomb getting may bring Middle East's geopolitical stability. However, if global politics admit Iran to get nuclear weapon, our Earth will eternally loose the chance to abolish nuclear weapons. Therefore, the world should not allow Iran to get nuclear weapons even though they want to have it as a deterrent power to Israel.
After United States' presence declined in Eastern Asia, the area seems to be chaotic situation because of many existences of having nuclear weapons (India, Pakistan, China, Russia, North Korea). Also, United States will request Japan to have its own military power which can defense Japanese territory on their own accompanying the retreat from Far East Asia area. If President Obama's Prague Declaration fail, Washington may request Japanese government to equip nuclear weapon as deterrent power to China, Russia or North Korea.
Of course, Japanese government should take more active action about realization of no nuclear world which clearly showed by President Obama in 2009. But should Japanese government face the potential of nuclear weapon equip in the future, Japanese government must reject that kind of opinion. In the context of assumed national security crisis (conflict with China mainly can be considered now) , Japanese nuclear equipment will work as military power, not as deterrent power. Also, Japan's nuclear equipment may accompany ROK's or other Pacific rim nations' nuclear equipment, it is therefore inevitable that East Asia becomes nuclear weapon's stronghold. If Japanese government avoid nuclear weapons' equipment, real potential of nuclear war will be rising.

Leonhardt's Messe in h
Book Review of "Sorry States -Apologies in International Politics"(邦題;あやまる国家―国際政治における謝罪)
http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/0801446252/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_alp_APPeqb096J7J8
Japanese citizens should recognize that Korea is very important strategic partner - from geopolitical and global framework viewpoint
THIS ARTICLE WAS WROTE ON JULY,13TH.
Introduction
...
THIS WEEK, there was an accident in Seoul that Korean man attacked to Japanese embassy using van. However, it was emerged that this accident was revenge to Japanese right person who bind the placard saying "Takeshima is Japan's inherent territory" to the bronze figure setting in front of Japanese embassy as a symbol of comfort women problem between Japan and Korea. Frankly, both things are foolish, but by these accident each citizens' feeling to another become worse. And sadly, Japan-Korea relationship always repeat same thing which happened this week, and always overlook core profit for two countries.
THERE ARE MANY DIFFICULT PROBLEMS between Japan and Korea. Both governments insists that Takeshima 竹島 (Dokut 独島 in Korean) is "inherent territory", and Korean government offers to Japanese government to compensate officially about brutality during World War II (when Korea was a colony of Japan). Still now both citizens' feelings to another is not very good, and each citizens overlooked the profit of "Japan-Korea relationship". Mutual criticize, misunderstanding and unreasonable prejudice can be brought destructive result to Japan and Korea. Therefore, each citizens should recognize the profit of Japan-Korea relationship from perspective profit is bigger than unprofitable situations which are brought by nonsense and little-meaningful conflict.
First and foremost of all, Japan and Korea stand almost same situation geopolitically and strategic cooperation is inevitable. However, it can be assumed that this point has not been thought as important viewpoint and many people overlooked. Both Japan and Korea situate very close geographically, and both two countries are threaten by "communist" sphere of influence (i.e. China and North-Korea, maybe Russia can be involved). Japanese government always faces China's threat at Senkaku 尖閣 islads (Diaoyu 魚釣 islands in Chinese) , and Korea also faces North-Korea's threat. Of course, both Japanese and Korean government have strong relationship with China mainly in the field of economy, but in strategic field and ideological field (alliance with U.S. also should be considered) China cannot be thought as strategic partner who shares equal profit. Also, China wants to have a role as a "nation of Pacific" indicates that Japan and Korea stand in same threat (because both two nations are U.S. alliance powers and disturbs China's advance to Pacific).
In the context of global framework, it can be said that two spheres of influence are existing in the area of Far East : U.S. alliance power and not U.S. (or NATO) alliance power. Though U.S. now seeks to cooperate with China, core collision between U.S. and China (especially the problem of human rights or democratization etc.) cannot and will not be able to resolve. U.S. and China relationship will have been the repeat of "tension" and "reconciliation (detente)". Beyond 2025, or after end of quarter of the twenty-first century, it is said that U.S. power in Asia would be decline and China's power will increase (but wouldn't have power like 1990's U.S.). Even if China won't be "superpower" country, it can be said that Far East geopolitical situation will jeopardize dramatical change sooner or later.*
Without strong cooperative relationship between Japan and Korea, both countries cannot react to dramatical change of geopolitic. Though U.S. presence in Asia will not vanish at least by 2025, it is certain that China's power will increase relatively to U.S. military power. Given the situation that Japan and Korea are disturbing China's advance to Pacific, both two countries sharing same danger and threat is very clear. However, surprisingly, some (maybe almost) Japanese citizens are recognizing that Korea and China stands same position. Maybe this style of thinking comes from the recognition that "anti-Japanese" feeling are common in both two countries. But both citizens should know that anti feeling doesn't make anything positive, and territorial problem or historical problem are not only factor of nation relationship.
Nation relationship connotes many field, and profit of the national security policy mainly should be focus on geopolitical situation, shouldn't be focus on anti-feeling or territorial problem. Especially Takeshima problem, Japanese citizens should understand that it is not the fight with "enemy". It doesn't mean that China is Japan's enemy, but in the viewpoint of strategical cooperation, it is clear that Korea is more important partner for Japan. It is same for Korea, too. Japan and Korea also have other problem (mainly in the field of historical recognition), but these things shouldn't be work as negative factor for Japan-Korean relationship. Korea shoudn't be extreme, and Japan shouldn't have prejudicial view that Korean's historical recognition is wrong and Japan's recognition is correct. In that field gentle dialog is foremost needed, and it will brought more friendly relationship between Japan and Korea.
It is nonsense that Japan or Korea makes now confusional relationship. Both have responsibilities. In the situation that Japan-Korean relationship is more and more inevitable and important, mutual compromise and trying to dialog is also inevitable. Now, Japan-Korean relationship stands crossroad.
Note
* Zbigniew Brzezinski's recent writing "Strategic Vision" gives us very interesting thought. Chapter 4 "Beyond 2025" is must-read.

Populism is postponing politics
Politics often has to make decisions which are not easy to accept for citizen but have very important meaning for nation(e.g. act of consumption tax in Japan which has established very recently). Because of uneasiness to accept, people sometimes has interest in politicians who stand same position of mass (e.g. Ozawa). However, these politicians who should be called "populist" are real cause of "cannot decide politics", because these populists' opinion postpones very important decision and will bring nation's decline. People should know that decision of politics are sometimes uneasy to accept but it would work in the long run, and politics cannot make big outcome in short period. If we allow these politicians' rule, real collapse will be brought to our country.
